Origin: Native Thai
1. To Want (Objects) In Thai, there are two ways to say “want.” เอา is for things.
เอาอันนี้ 📣 (ao an níi) — I want this one (I’ll take this).
ไม่เอา 📣 (mâi ao) — I don’t want it / No thanks.
2. To Bring/Take (Directional) As we discussed, เอา is the “Carbon” that bonds with ไป and มา to show movement.
เอามา 📣 (ao maa) — Bring [it] here (Grab + Toward).
เอาไป 📣 (ao bpai) — Take [it] away (Grab + Away).
3. To Use / To Apply Used when you are “taking” a concept or a tool to do something.
เอาใจ 📣 (ao jai) — To please someone (Literally: To take [their] heart).
เอาจริง 📣 (ao jing) — To be serious (Literally: To take [it] as truth).
This is the biggest mistake for beginners.
เอา 📣 (ao): I want STUFF (Nouns).
อยาก 📣 (yàak): I want TO DO (Verbs).
Example: > * “I want water” = เอาน้ำ 📣 (ao nám)
“I want to drink water” = อยากดื่มน้ำ 📣 (yàak dùem nám)
