  The North-Hand Side

  As we discussed with ทักษิณ (Right/South), ancient Thai orientation was based on facing East (the rising sun).

  • When you face East, your Right hand is South.

  • When you face East, your Left hand points North.

  • เลี้ยวซ้าย 📣 (líiao sáai) — Turn left.

  • ทางซ้าย 📣 (thaang sáai) — On the left side / The left way.

  • มือซ้าย 📣 (muue sáai) — Left hand.

  3. Ritual Movement (The “Reverse” Circle)

  • เวียนซ้าย 📣 (wiian sáai) — To circle counter-clockwise.

  •  เวียนซ้าย is used for “final” rituals or funerals to symbolize the world of the deceased, which is the “reverse” of the world of the living.
